I need to crop an image from the background then insert it into another background in MS publisher. I keep getting the white box around the image. Can anyone give me step by step instructions? I guess I'm too damn dumb to understand the tutorial. Thanks bunches. Kim

What format are you saving the image in? Try saving it in a PNG format which is supported by MS Publisher. That should retain the transparent portion of your image.

Select the subject using the magnetic lasso tool. About this tool have a look at this tutorial:

http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoshop/l/blrbps_3aleaf.htm

Copy the selected object (Edit > Copy).
Now open a new document (File > New). In the New window click on the drop down arrow on the right of Background Contents box and choose Transparent and OK.
Now click on Edit > Paste. Go to File menu > Save for Web and click on the drop down arrow in Settings box and choose PNG24 (PNG is an image format that preserves transparency) and then Save.

In Publisher open your document and then go to Insert > Image > From File.

1) first select the image using polygonal or magnetic tool. Then cut or copy selected image & paste it on to another background.

2) If u save the file as .png instead of .jpg, then u will not get white box around.

I am not exactly sure what you are talking about but go to http://www.tutorialized.com/tutorials/Photoshop/Photo-Effects/1 and you will find pretty much anything you want, you can also ask the staff there, they love to solve problems for some reason.
