Give this to your parents:

In most cases of mono, no specific treatment is necessary. The illness is usually self-limited and passes much the way other common viral illnesses resolve. Treatment is directed toward the relief of symptoms. Available antiviral drugs have no significant effect on the overall outcome of mono and may actually prolong the course of the illness. Occasionally, Strep throat occurs in conjunction with mono and is best treated with penicillin or erythromycin.

Ampicillin and amoxicillin should be avoided if there is a possibility of mono since up to 90% of patients with mono develop a rash when taking these medications. They may then be inappropriately thought to have an allergy to penicillin. For the most part, supportive or comfort measures are all that is necessary. Acetaminophen can be given for fever and any aching of the body or head. A sufficient amount of sleep and rest is important. The throat soreness is worst during the first five to seven days of illness and then subsides over the next seven to 10 days. The swollen tender glands generally subside by the third week.

A feeling of fatigue or tiredness may persist for months following the acute phase of the illness. It is recommended that patients with mono avoid participation in any contact sports during the first six to eight weeks following the onset to prevent trauma to the enlarged spleen. The enlarged spleen is susceptible to rupture, which can be life-threatening. Cortisone medication is occasionally given for the treatment of severely swollen tonsiPatients can continue to have virus particles present in their saliva for as long as 18 months after the initial infection. When symptoms persist for more than six months, the condition is frequently called "chronic" EBV infection. However, laboratory tests generally cannot confirm continued active EBV infection in people with "chronic" EBV infection. Such cases are often further evaluated to detect chronic fatigue syndrome (CFSls or throat tissues which threaten to obstruct breathing.

You need to go to doctor. the sore throat can be Beta Streptococcus group A very frequently. That can go into scarlet fever. Other conditions can also present as Mono. If you have it you need to be off school and resting. It is very contagious. You can also get a swollen spleen and inflamed liver from mono. I know I did. Please insist. Go to school nurse if they say no. You need to be seen by a doc. Hope you feel better soon.

Go to your school nurse and let them determine if you should be seen by a doctor

It does sound pretty serious to me. Especially if it hasn't gone away after a week.

there are some free health clinics or places that will see uninsured kids if insurance is a problem, maybe your school nurse can help..
If your in college the schools have health clinics too.

Good luck, I hope you get better soon

Sorry-Nothing they do about mono besides give you a blood test to confirm you have mono. Get plenty of rest, drink fluids and take ibuprofen for aches and pains. Takes a couple of weeks to go away. And no- you don't always get it from kissing.

sometimes just a virus can last for 7 to 10 days or more. if you are still feeling ill after 2 weeks, then you should see the doc, they is treatment for mono if that is what you have, also if both you and your bf are sick then you should stay apart for a while you could be just re-infecting each other

It is best to be diagnosed by a doctor and make sure it is not something more serious. If your parents won't take you why not ask another member of your family.

No, it is not true and your parents are shirking their parental duties to take care of you when your are ill.

You need to get diagnosed. If they refuse to do it, go to school and tell the office you are being neglected by your parents because you need medical attention.
