Well, you're 'looking' at one so I guess that makes ... one.
But I would say that the main reason is because for many years, the American church has bought into the Religious Right --- and many of those people have told them that global warming is a lie --- take Rush Limbaugh for example. I vividly remember my mom listening to him when I was in high school, and he would arrogantly brag that humans can't destroy the earth, that such an idea was ridiculous. I have no idea if he still talks that way --- but I've met many, many Christians who have bought into that.
I think the other component is the idea that the world will be ending soon and that Jesus will be coming back. I think because of this, Christians have come to think that since we won't be here much longer, what does it matter how we live? By the way, I agree with them that Jesus is coming back soon. But He *loves* His earth and all that He created in it. I think they'll be mighty surprised to hear what He has to say to them about how carelessly they treated something that He views as so precious.

Probably because of the direction environmentalism has taken. Christians do care about the environment (or if they don't, they should) because one of God's first instructions to us was to take care of his creation.
The problem is with the extreme left of the environmental movement, which seems to think that the earth is actually more important than the people who inhabit it. It isn't.
I look at environmentalism like this: if I have roommates, and I trash the kitchen, I'd better clean it up--it's just polite. Same thing with the earth.

Define environmentalists
Protecting the environment and trying to preserve our resources and use the resources in the best way is one thing.
Proclaiming the sky is falling because humans are going to destory the planet in the next 50 years is another.
Sorry if I dont cry over a bird that just lost its habitat so I dont have to sit in an hour of traffic and they can build a new freeway, which lessons the pollutants in the air because less cars are idlely sitting in traffic.
There is a great book by Michael Crichton called State of Fear. Althought the book itself is fictional, the man is a doctor and used actual real research, tons of research, to make the points he makes in the fictional story. In fact it goes thru the dozens and dozens of books and scientists he read and used to do research on the book and sort of lays out the fact from the fiction on the idea of environmentalism after the book is over. It depicts perfectly how extremists in the environmental movement are not only exaggerating their socalled research but engaging in a form of fear tactics to increase their own funding and push their own agendas. It is a great book.

i'm a christian, and i think that we should preserve our planet because even if it's not for our use, it will be used somehow. but i think that more shoudl be enviromentalists, becuase it really makes sence. plus, if god doesn't end up being real, we want a good earth to live on, right? this usually makes other christians mad, but ifeel like even if i believe in one thing, that doesn't mean it wont change with time.

Reading the book of Revelation in the bible, we see the signs of the times. The end is very near and the environment is the least of our problems. We are taught in the old testament to be good to animals and take care of the earth to a degree.

Christians are environmentalists becasue it is part of the Christian doctrine in creation. Christians are not as noisy and militant as the other groups though.

I wish I knew. We are stewards of this earth and will be held responsible by God for what we have done during our time here. That may not be the popular Christian view but it is the biblical one.

They have no respect for themselves or this planet. Anyone who does not take the time to research the garbage the church professes has no self respect for their brains. Why would they care about this environment. They're all forming a line to Israel to be the first in line to die, why care about anything else? Now, doesn't that make sense?

because we are working on the root cause, not the symptoms. you can hug a million trees in the rainforest, but until you've addressed the hunger and poverty, those trees will stilll be destroyed to feed someone's kids.
Christians see the bigger picture...
