It means you are suffering from a mild stroke, or a psychotic episode; or you're faking it.

Totally false. Sometimes is even a demon talking. It is not a real tongue speaking therefore it is not the Spirit speaking because the Spirit talks the things that hear from Christ. There is not a example of tongue speaking in the Bible, but the meaning of tongue is a real language.

Tongues is a spiritual form of communication based upon what the Bible teaches. People speak in tongues but it is a private affair and not to be promoted as anything else. It is an aspect of Christianity like prayer or singing but it is a private affair. Also there are many schools of thought concerning this subject but we must bare in mind that whatever our aspirations and however high they may be, they are in the end filtered through the minds of fallen souls. The focus must be on the finished work of Christ first otherwise we can go wrong and get caught up in un-necessary dogma.

Did the men in Acts 2 know what they were saying?
Did the interpreters of tongues know what was being said?
Paul said,
1 Cor 14:5-6
5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.
6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
(KJV)
In other words Paul assigned no value whatsoever to speaking in an unknown tongue.

I didn't until my sister attended a Pentecostal (believing in such gifts) school. Others were speaking in tongues. She at first dismissed it and thought it was weird, but then immediately realized she had the wrong attitude. She was given the gift of tongues on the spot. I've heard her and its amazing. Since my family has had no precedent for it she asked around to learn about it. One friend said that her mom speaks tongues in French and she can translate. Another shared a story where the person started studying the language that they spoke in tongues with and the language of the tongue then changed.

It is nothing more than a "gimmick". Those that use it are trying to convince others they are smitten with the "spirit". Hogwash.
Hey, you can flip thru the channels and watch the blind see, the crippled walk, hemorrhoids disappear, cancer cured and the same conman babbling in "tongues". If you believe that malarkey I suggest you need a reality check. Get out more. Stay out of bars. Stop smoking those mushrooms and licking those frogs.

It is my belief that whenever someone speaks in tongues, someone else in the group will be given the power to understand what is being said. If this doesn't happen, you're being conned. Have you seen the "Left Behind" movie series? In "Left Behind 2", a man spoke to one of the main characters in English, but on the recording of the man's comments, he was speaking in Hebrew. He spoke in his native language, but it was understood by someone who didn't speak Hebrew. That's how speaking in tongues works.

Some have the gift of interpretation as well, and do know. Some don't, and they don't know. When one is speaking in tongues, it is always best that one who can interpret is there as well, to verify and explain to the edification of all present.
Unless of course, the speaker is praying at the time, in private. When we don't know how to pray, "the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express" (Romans 8:26).
Have a great night!

That is the theory. My uncles are pentecostal, and I've seen them do it a few times, and it's left me unnerved. Not because I really believed that they were speaking in some divine language, but that they truly believed that they were. It was just a bunch of gibberish, the same sounds over and over again. Watch any one of the late-night Christian channels, and you will see it happening on there. There is no manifestation of the holy spirit...just people who so badly want there to be that they actually hallucinate. Kind of like when a woman wants to be pregnant so badly that her periods actually stop and her belly grows. Our minds are powerful things.

After the closure of canon, the gift of prophecies and tongue speaking ceased. Now, the Bible the whole Bible and nothing but the Bible is the standard for faith and life.
