The lawmakers are prejudice and use their positions of power to force their will upon the people. It's all about misuse of power but, people are getting sick of politicians walking on our civil rights and it will end.
It won't be long before politicians are forced to bend to the will of the people if they want to keep their jobs.

Since same-sex marriage is totally HARMLESS, supporting the banning of it is not something that any truly intelligent or sensible person would do. That would stem from hatefulness, spitefulness, irrationality, and bone-ignorance.
As for the Bible, red-letter editions highlight the things Jesus said. And He never once condemned homosexuality. As for those who mindlessly seek to impose Biblical precepts upon society, I remind them that the Bible neither appointed nor authorized ANY person or group to act as such a Gestapo. And in fact, 1 Cor. 5:12-13 outright **prohibits** that. The ONLY such imposition authorized by the Bible is **church** discipline, which can be applied by congregants of an individual church against other fellow congregants.
There is NO WAY that a same-sex couple's getting married could do ANY harm to the marriage of any opposite-sex couple... so those mindless hate-laws called "Defense of Marriage" are ludicrous, and born of the abject ignorance and bigotry that infests all who are lemmings and leaders of the loathsome RRR Cult... the "Religious" Radical Right. See this, for more proof of that:

I see the place you're going with this. despite the fact that, the single assumption you employ by using out is that each and every physique Christians oppose same intercourse marriage on 'religious grounds'. The Christian community at great is only too different to assert all of them banned or voted on religious grounds. Secondly, i'm uncertain you may say that removing the votes on religious grounds will make it especially no longer likely that any of the pollmeasures opposing it might have succeeded. third, no longer all Christians might agree that the Bible says being non-Christian is incorrect - OT is Jewish so as that constructive does not say it. despite the fact that, I accept as true with the place you're going with this. Basing undemanding regulation and civil rights on a non secular textual content textile is an extremely VERY risky pastime to play. There should be some allure to authority, good judgment, or rationality that is going previous only "it is written in this e book right here". So, on that element - i thoroughly agree. Sorry to sound confrontational yet i particularly am no longer attempting to be. I only attempt to be dedicated to the truths skinny issues even whilst i do no longer accept as true with the final device.

You ask why do people support banning same sex marriages. My answer is , according to the Bible it is wrong, and most of the people that support banning it believe in the moral values the Bible teaches. How can you separate church and state when our country was founded on Biblical principles? But as we drift farther away from those principles, our morals tend to drop along with it. It probably will be accepted into society before long, like sex outside of marriage. Children having children and diseases spread, abortions. Just because it's accepted doesn't make it right. And our morals keep dropping lower and lower. There are prices to pay for making the wrong decisions. Whether we agree with it or not

There is a seperation of church and state that's why it is legal to have abortions(unfortunately). However, since each individual is allowed to vote and they can do so keeping their religion in mind, then they are allowed to vote no.
You are right not everyone is Christian in the U.S. and just because they are not Christian doesn't mean that they are accepting to gay marriages. My grandmother is lesbian and thinks it is a complete waste of time. She says and I quote,"Why do you need a slip of paper to validate your love for someone else?" There are atheist I know that are opposed to it. I have never asked them why though. I'm pretty sure I could find a muslim or two opposed to it. My guess would be that someone from just about every walk of life is opposed to it for their own reasons so why ask the question of just Christians?
Well, then if they say it is disgusting or unnatural then there is you answer for those that are not Christians.
My thoughts on you last addition: I have met many people who are gay/lesbian and every single one I have met did not wake up one day in high school and realize they liked the same sex. All the ones I know turned I guess would be the word because of something the opposite sex did to them. I'm sure that there are people born that way but the theory has some flaws. My grandmother for instance, turned for lack of a better word lesbian because my lovely (meant very sacrastically) grandfather decided he was going to beat her so badly he almost killed her and my mom(she was pregnant with my mom).

Marriage by definition is a contract between a man and a woman, a same sex couple fall into another legal category thus another legal remedy is necessary. A civil union that protects the rights of both of the individuals within that relationship is the better response.
This is not a church state issue, you can be married without an association with any religious organization, Christian or other wise. It is more an issue of the issue if you will. The protection of the children born to the couple.
Please don't reference writings that you are not familiar with as a defense for your position.

Homosexuality is opposite the biblical philosophical position in that they cannot reproduce after their own kind as did Adam and Eve. Homosexuality is a preference of course but talk to any homosexual and sooner or later a tension arises. This is because we are made in God's image after His likeness and God's grace gently reminds us that all is not well with man. If homosexuality was kool there would be no homosexual debate from any side. But there is and it is because people apart from an absolute are forced to bolster their image against the image and likeness of God. Can you imagine the despair experienced by these poor people. Sin separates from God and the effect is a three fold cosmic alienation. We cannot know God which means we cannot know our fellow man and last we cannot know ourselves either. Hence homosexuality like most non-Christian things is an attempt to validate once existence separated from God's propositional revelation in the Bible. Finally take the Bible away from society and what tells man he is man? Only the Bilble explains personality.

True, the bible states that homosexuality is a sin.
the bible was written by "mans" hands, but the "text" was given by GOD. John for example was exiled to the isle of Patmos, because of his teachings about Jesus. While on the isle, John received a revelation from God. Hence the last book of the bible "Revelation". And while its true that you have the right to believe whatever you want to believe, this country was founded on "religion" and I feel that when we started to move away from our teaching and people started "coming out" then that's about the time we should have put a stop to it and say..."hey this is not right and if you want to practice same-sex relationships, go to some other country who accepts it."

I don't know. Why would Jesus (all-loving) hate Homosexuals?
Correct if I am wrong..But didn't God create Humans? There is mounting evidence that being Homosexual is very closely linked to Genetics and Biology. For example, children raised in same-sex households are no more likely to become Homosexual than those raised in heterosexual households. What's this point to?
For those who say Homosexuality is a "choice"..That seems to be a very ignorant assumption. Why would homosexuals choose to be gay if there is still so much hate and prejudice against them? If I was to "choose" a lifestyle, wouldn't I choose one with the least resistance?
I think Religion unfortunately has mixed "culture" as you suggested into the writings.

Well, people who are against same sex marriages are not all christians, they are people who just personally don't believe that 2 ppl of the same sex should engage of any kind of relationship beyond a platonic friendship. So,besides the bible, who ever wrote it,whatever was said, people themselves do not except it,because they don't fully understand it and are not ready to except it. Now it's peoples choice not to except it,or want it in their lives, but people also have to understand that if it's someone else's choice they should respect it and leave them bee. People just can't stand it,they feel it's illmoral, disgusting, against human nature, ungodly, unclean, etc etc etc...the fact is,it's two human beings who feel certain feelings towards each other as natural as a man and women do,except for the same sex. People our elder siblings who didn't grow up around homosexuality don't see a place for it,nor understand how it is or care to know. So they practice and preach to their children everything they have learned and some children who have grown up and been taught not to like or except certain things have either excepted what their parent's have taught them or have decided to want to know more about something they don't understand. We can read the bible and hear preachings, but if you don't live in a lifestyle that open to change and new things, then the fact is your never going to be open to anything or understand things.People discriminate against things that are ridiculous, there are more important t hings to worry about then color, race, homosexulity, transexuals etc etc.Sadly, you can't push people to understand or except certain things.Sin or not sin someone feels they don't like something or except it,then they will make up an excuse not to like it.

Actually, there is no direct condemnation of homosexuality in the bible, only interpretations, and certainly nowhere in the new testament.
People don't want things allowed that are in opposition to thier beliefs, and that's understandable to a point.
However, in a secular government, marriage must be looked at as a personal contract. From that standpoint, it is subject to the same anti-discrimination laws an any other contracts.
People felt allowing interracial marraige to be against god and the bible (many still do), but it was illegal to not to allow it. Same-gender marriage will soon be the same way.
