In acts of the apostles, it says that the bretheren would gather on the first day of the week for their eucharistic celebrations.

the sabbath was saturday, and that was the day the early jewish christians would gather for jewish observances. but after the destruction of the temple and the excommunication of christian jews from the jewish communities, "jewish christianity" came to an effective end and only the sunday gatherings remained.

sabbath= saturday=commerations of God resting on the seventh day

The Lord's day = Sunday = commeration of the resurrection.

There is no biblical evidence that the early church ever used the word sabbath to refer to Sunday. It was the Lord's Day.

There are a couple of examples of the disciples meeting on the first day of the week:

Act 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

1Co 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

Those are the only ones I can think of off-hand, but they do show that the disciples were meeting on the first day of the week (Sunday) way back in the beginning...(perhaps because Saturday was already taken?)
In any case, the commandment to keep the Sabbath is not about what day to worship, if you read it correctly, the Sabbath is a day of REST...not only for each individual person, but their servants, their children, their animals, even strangers who happen to live among them are to be given the day off on the Sabbath. So, if you are a "Sabbath keeper" you'd best be sure you don't ask your maid to clean the bathroom, or your kid to pick up his toys, or ask your dog to fetch a stick...you are not to go shopping, or to a restaurant, because you would be paying a stranger to work for you...in fact, you yourself may not make a piece of toast, turn on the stove, or drive the car...since all of these would count as "work"...
That is what Friday, the "day of preparation" is for. You must do double work on Friday, in order to free yourself up all day Saturday to rest.
If you're going to stick to the letter of the law, you ought to know what you are keeping to, don't you think??

the decision to worship on a Sunday was political. The original day of worship was Saturday.

Nope, not that I've seen.

We worship on Sunday because it is the Christian sabbath--the day God rest after his creation of the earth. Though really, there was no calendar in those days ;)

no, actually, the sabbath was originally on Saturday (as the name suggests) but it was changed by the Catholic religion to Sunday by one of the popes (I can´t remember his name). Oh and they took it upon themselves to modify the second commandment too, which originally stated that you will honor THE sabbath.

Actually, the real Sabbath starts Friday at sundown and ends Saturday at sundown. That is the 7th day, which is the day He rested.
