Oh Simple. I found this out days ago Dude!! The meaning of life is make a change, so the next generation can live better, happier, more freedom, love, dreams, and more goals. Sounds real corny but its TRUE!! Your here to change the world, some people DO and some people just don't. Like if Thomas Edison didn't invent electricity than we'd all be watching Television by the Candlelight. He was BORN to make a change, that was the purpose of HIS life. Yeah if his life changed he became all Ghetto and didn't invent anything..someone else would right? But it JUST wouldn't be the Same. So Point of Life=MAKE CHANGES!! Doesn't have to be Big, a change in a Human Being is good enough for the society....I mean for Now anyways ^_^

There is no grand scheme to things. We're here simply because we are. No purpose, no reason. We are just another species on this planet that mates, spawns and then dies.

However, because we are a life form that has higher brain function, we give ourselves purpose. We define why we are here, just to make ourselves feel more important; to fill that void that says "there is no importance."

So, yeah.. no reason. No purpose.

I don't know and it really doesn't interest me much at the moment cos I answered it 5 minutes ago. it's not going to make a difference to how I live my life, and you've directed this to atheists, so I will say that I also don't feel the need to invent imaginary beings giving me imaginary purposes (a series of complicated tests by a sadist, at the end of which I am either punished or rewarded)

I've never had to do so little soul searching as the day after I became an Atheist. Once I realized that I wasn't here to do God's work, and I wasn't here to spread the word of the Lord, I was able to pick my own goals and my own reason for being.

What is it? My kids. My books. My students. My legacy.

The purpose of life is to spend as much time in the Yahoo! Answers Religion and Spirituality section as possible.

What's the purpose of life?
I don't know for sure but I've be doing a lot of "soul searching" and I think everyone has a reason to live even if its just for the sake of living.

It doesn't have a purpose, we're not here for a reason.

We evolved as humans only because it was evolutionarily advantageous to do so.

In the end, when the universe tears itself apart, nothing we've done will mean a load of donkey bollocks.

My purpose is personal.
I think, however, you were asking if atheists believed in some great universal purpose as assigned to each of us by some deity?
Obviously, the answer to that question is no - no such purpose exists.

For the same reason that all the other animals, mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and insects are here.
Don't delude yourself just because you can think, that it makes you any better, or divine, than all the other creatures of this planet.

Purpose denotes intention for existence.

Intention can only come from a conscious being.

Since there is no creator of the universe, there is no inherint purpose to existence.
