I joined the Army when I was 17. I was young, out of school and I had no clue where I was going with my life. I needed structure and something to be proud of. I also needed to be surrounded by people who needed the same thing. OIF and OEF had no effect on my decision. I knew that whether I liked it or not, it came with the job. If I wanted to better myself I had to make sacrifices. So it came down to what's more important. Staying at home doing drugs getting into trouble and doing NOTHING with my life or build a family with the best people I've ever met while going to Iraq and being miserable BUT knowing that I'm doing the right thing. I've learned a lot being in the Army. Not just about my job, but about people. I've learned what kind of person I want to be whether I stay in the military or not. I've made friends that will always understand me, where I'm coming from and what I've been through and friends who will stick with me for a life time (including my husband). I've met people who I want to be nothing like, who have made me embarrassed to even know they exist. But all in all they've made me who I am today and who I will always be. I'll forever appreciate my decision to join the military and I think I speak for a lot of people when I say no matter how much soldiers complain about their jobs and no matter how bad they think they have it. They wouldn't change what they've been through or what they're going through for the world.

First of all thank you, I trust that all veterans had a great day.
Now why did I join? being that was 36 years ago its hard to say just what was going through my mind. I know that Vietnam was still a concern, But it wasn't something i had any fear of. I was 18 and full of piss and vinegar.
I suppose part of the reason was just to get away. Done with HS and ready to take on the world. I really don't think patriotism had a lot to do with it. That came later during the multiple re-enlistments
I can promise you one thing for sure though. I would do it again today if I had the health to do it.

I have not yet joined yet, for I am too young (Still in highschool). I do plan on joining the military, like my great grandfather, my grandfather, my father, and my brother. I love this country, and I would be proud to serve and sacrifice myself for it. Happy Veterans Day, by the way!

I joined in 1998 when I was 23. I had a lousy job and my life was going no-where fast. I knew I wanted to go to college, but I needed to get my act together. The Army put me on the right track. I got off active duty in 2002 and started college full time in 2003. I joined the National Guard in 2004 and now I have my bachelor's degree and my commission. I met my husband in the Army, and now my life has direction and stability. I'm happier now than I ever was, and it wouldn't have happened if I hadn't joined the military.

maximum individuals do not have a "extremely humorous tale" about why they desirous to hitch, because maximum individuals connect for extremely severe and properly theory out motives. in the journey that they don't take care of the determination as severe and picture it out precise then they are basically dumb. The humorous memories in many cases come once you've joined and characteristic gone via boot camp and so on. ;) Plus, the humorous tale you should apply relies upon on your personality's personality. If protection force is a huge component to their existence, a lot so that you would start up the tale with why they joined, it probable doesn't basically be a humorous anecdote, notwithstanding you could continuously say something like their father and mother kicked them out and it changed into the protection force or the streets. notwithstanding it really is no longer very humorous. xD possibly you should start up the tale with a humorous tale about their first day of boot camp or their first... something else about the protection force in case you want it to be humorous. or you should take a severe clarification for transforming into a member of and characteristic the nature state it in an relaxing way, if she or he's humorous in nature. no longer particular if this facilitates in any respect, yet as a member of the U. S. Air pressure DEP and someone who writes as a pastime, it really is very few of my options.

I want my son to one day say "my dad did somthing really cool" i eanted to follow in the foot steps of my father, him father and my great grandfather. Joing the United States Marines was the best decision i ever made. No,, its not the most pleasent thing to do for 9 months at a time but its worth it. everything i have done i am proud of.

I joined because I was homeless and I needed a job. But no matter why a person joins, they will serve their country, and that is what matters most.
