After going to med school and completing the residency program, psychiatrists typically earn $70k+. Six figures are common.

a psychiatrist usually charges 150-600 an hour and has anywhere from 20-60 sessions a week. if you take the median 40 hours/week at 200/hour with 8 weeks off (44 week year) that is about $350k so they can make anywhere from 200k to a million a year, especially depending on where they live and how good they are. in beverly hills and surrounding areas the min one pays a shrink is about 400-450.

you do the math.

but if you are doing if for the money, you will not be helping anyone and it will be apparent to the patients of the dr. and the practice will not be a success.

choose what you do for work carefully.

ps: i am NOT a psychiatrist. but work closely with several.

It totally depends on your experience and where you work.
Most new phychiatrists start with 70K or so.
As time goes by, the salary increases, sometime as much as 400K, depending on your patients demand for your help and how well you do your job.

Hope this helps. :)

Depending on what type you are and where you work (own business, hospital, school) you can make different amounts but mainly above 90 000 a year.

Psychiatrists make different money because there are different institutions that employ them or they have their own practice.

Safe to say, many make six figure incomes because they do carry an MD after their name.
