I have always loved tattoos, they just seemed so sexy looking if done right.

I have 4 soon to be 5 and all of my tattoos represent something to me. I usually think very hard about why I am getting one, what I want it to represent and then come up with an idea and go to an artist that specializes in custom work. This way I can explain my ideas and they can make it work in a tattoo.

My 1st tattoo represents my marriage to my high school sweetheart. It is a butterfly resting on a purple rose. The rose represents our relationship blooming at our wedding and the butterfly represents our changing relationship.

My 2nd tattoo represents my relationship with my lifelong best friend. It is a heart with a ribbon twirling around it. WE each got the heart in our favorite color and the ribbon is the others favorite color.

My 3rd tattoo represents my maintaining a 200 pound weight loss. It is a tribal butterfly. The butterfly represents the transformation that I went through and the tribal outline represents the long windy path I had to travel to get to my goal.

My 4th tattoo symbolizes my faith and my family. It is a rosary around my ankle with the cross on my foot. On each tip of the cross is a birthstone that represents my husband and my three children.

My next tattoo is going to be a Celtic knotted heart to represent my Irish heritage.

The pain level depends on where you are getting it done. Don't take any pain killers before it as it could cause you to bleed out more ink. I was nervous before my first one too. I now have five, six if you count the one that I had covered up. It is addictive!!! Yes, keep the bandage on as they say. Instead of Vaseline, use Vitamin A & D ointment on it. It helps the skin heal better. Make sure the skin stays well lubed with that stuff, I don't mean a big gob, but a thin coat of it. Do that for the first 4-6 days. Then, moisturize it for at least to weeks with a fragrant and dye free lotion. Also, you cannot take a bath or go swimming for two weeks after the tattoo, some say a month. You take a shower instead. Make sure you keep it clean. Dab it dry after your shower. If you rub, you can pull the ink and scabs from your skin. Don't itch at it, for the same reason as dabbing with a towel to dry. The trick my brother taught me was to slap it when it itched, which it will once it starts healing. Let's see am I forgetting anything? Oh, yeah, show it off once the bandage is off.

I have several, but my favorite one I got after my daughter was born. I was just so thrilled to have this sweet little baby girl that I wanted to show it somehow. The tattoo is a little fairy that has my daughters eyes and coloring climbing up the stem of a rose. Her name is written in pretty script and there's little tiny hearts and stars and sparkles all around it.

I got a tattoo with my little sister. We drew it together and got it on our lower stomachs. We got it because we both wanted one and we wanted to get matching ones. It is just a star with some stuff around it.

I got a big moon skull on one shoulder. It looked like a cool picture, and I was half hammered.
