the excess sugar decreases insulin sensitivity causing fat stores to be increased. high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) causes elevated levels of blood lipids increasing the risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD). the phosphoric acid leeches calcium from the skeletal system increasing the risk for osteoporosis.

Pop can yeild many disastrous results. There is the story of a university student that chugged 5 2 liter bottles in a short amount of time and then died from too much CO2 in his body (lack of oxygen).

Furthermore, over the long run, the carbonic acid in soda eats away enamel from teeth and deteriorates bone mass all over the body. Additionally, sugar can add weight/diabetes, but even fake sweeteners have their downfalls. A range of sugar substitutes have been shown to increase cancer risks and liver/kidney failure in lab rats. Basically, pop is terrible for you.

See if you can web surf stuff under urology. Iam 41 almost 42 and started having very bad troubles with my bladder. Iam about 15 to 20 years to young for those types of problems.Dr. Schoenfeld of Joplin MO who Iam seeing told me to stop drinking pop, which of course I whinned, or tried to whine my way out of it since I only drank diet, caffiene free pop and only 1 - 2 cans a week...I lost. I did not really think the guy knew what he was telling me, but it turns out that the chemicals in pop were causing hell on my bladder. I wont ever drink a pop again. In your essay you could surf cokes web site and see if they have any info anymore on the issue of POP VENDING MACHINES in schools...which was a very hot topic for a while due to the fact that parents are blaming thier childrens obesity on pop. You could include the fact that our nations children are a huge group of obese persons, in contrast to just us fat lazy adults, or the age 40's group who has pounds on them. You may be interested to know that our nations obese children almost all have ONE THING IN COMMON.......POP AND LOTS OF POP. Thats why McDonalds was ( forced) made to ( nearly) to add healthier items in the childrens happy meals...noting milk was added in as a healthier item so children wouldn't be stuck with just POP to drink> These topics are always in the hot seat where I work, so Iam sure your essay will be interesting...good choice I say.

The sugar adds calories and is bad for your teeth. The phosphate in pop robs your body of calcium, because the kidneys excrete the excess phosphate with calcium. This is especially bad for young women. It is believed that too much pop when you are young can lead to osteoporosis.

It rots your teeth, and makes you fat. I changed NOTHING about my diet, with the exception of not drinking pop (and drinking a lot of water in it's place) and I lost 10 pounds in a couple of month's time.

The large amounts of sugar can give you headaches or migranes. It can act like alchohol at times. The sugar overdose also can result in weight gain.
