You might need a cooler if you plan on playing games in hell. Seriously man, give it proper space and it will be fine. Its the CrapBox 360s that are overheating. The PS3 has been tortured when giving endurance tests and it never overheated. Yes the PS3 gets hot, but actually overheating - no. I saw videos of people with really big balls putting the PS3 on the bed with a shirt over it to see if they could get it to over heat... They got tired of waiting. Honestly man, give it adequate space and it WILL be fine. I've had days when I was a bum and played on my PS3 all day and nothing happened except that I forgot I had homework.

The PS3 does not over heat a lot at all. Unlike the Xbox 360 the PS3 can endure heat. You only need an inter cooler if your ps3 is in a closed box or something similar. Plus a inter cooler could mess up your system if its not by a trusted company, and don't expect any help from Sony, its not covered by warranty.

NO plz dont buy 1 bcuz it is a total waste of money. i thought i needed one but thought wrong, it was a total mistake 2 buy 1. 1st of all the cooler was kinda loud (btw i was using Nyko Intercooler) so it kinda got annoying. then it got even LOUDER like sumthing was jammed. I went to youtube and watched sum people dismantle a PS3. Turns out the PS3 has a very advanced cooling system built inside with a MASSIVE fan. If your ps3 overheats sum how call sony they'll take care of it.

No, the PS3's cooling system is amazing, it's the 360's who has problems with over heating. Besides, usually a cooling fan will cause your system to overheat more than it would without the fan (ironic).

I have heard that they do and are known for it. I have a PS3 and just turn it off when not in use. If you have the extra 30 I do not think that it would hurt to have especially if you leave it on all the time.

No. There are coolers, but, on the contrary, they make everything worse. Original cooling system is great, especially in new 40GB.

No, the 360 is the one that overheats. I leave mine on for weeks folding@home and nothing happens, it doesn't even fells hot running at full 1080p definition.
