My friend got a job and during the interview the manager didn't talk at all about the dress/apperance code. She dyed her hair bright pink afterwards and showed up to work the 1st day with her crazy pink hair. The manager said she cannot work there because her hair is in violation of the dress code. Do you think my friend should have been told this during the interview? My thoughts on this is that the manager probably didn't suspect her to dye her hair so didn't mention it during the interview. What are your thoughts?

Yes - he should have mentioned dress code ONLY if it required something out of the ordinary. IE requiring employees to wear black shoes.

An employer CAN'T and SHOULDN'T be expected to read peoples minds and tell them everything that is prohibited.

Your friend should have known better than to die her hair pink as it is prohibited at MOST jobs. Tell her to pick a more main stream color if she wants to stay in the work force.

Your friend was wrong! That's one reason why people are given interviews, to not only make sure that you are qualified for the job, but also to see what your appearance is, how you take care of yourself . I'm sure the manager didn't think in their wildest dreams that your friend would show up with bright pink hair. Most people wouldn't have to be told that , dyeing your hair bright pink would not be considered normal for the work place unless of course you worked for the circus.

The Friend of yours should be given a warning and a time to make her appearnace in accordance with her employer's dress code instead of just being fired.

The Manager couldnt have given or told her about the Dress Code at the time of Job Interview. It is normally done during the first week or first day or whatever the Orientation period is.

From the standpoint of a manager I would include that in my orientation type paperwork I would give the employee after hiring her but before she started. However, in most "typical" jobs that is not something that would be accepted and probably not the best impression to make on your first day of work. I'm sure it is totally cute and in my personal opinion people should be able to come to work in whatever hair/tattoos/piercings they want. However, it is still not widely accepted. I do think her new boss should give her the option of dyeing back though.

I think the manager didn't suspect her to dye her hair pink. She should have waited until she gets to know the working environment before dying her hair pink.

You're right about the manager not suspecting the friend to dye her hair the crazy colour. Also, if your friend knew she was going to dye her hair pink, she should have asked the manager beforehand.

even though I feel she is wrong they should have explained the dress code to her .but she should have had enough sense not to dye her hair pink. good luck and god bless.

Yeah, about the same. They should have told her.
