My son was complaining tonight about his knee itching. When I looked, I saw about 16 small bumps around his knee, most prominent on the side. They look like mini mosquito bites. Upon further inspection, I see that he has these bumps all over his body - some on his back, a few on his stomach, some on his chest... Some are grouped, and some aren't. What could it be? My first thought was flea bites, but I can't find a single flea in the house. Any ideas?

If your child is presenting symptoms such as fever/chills, headache, or loss of appetite, it is almost certainly chickenpox, as chickenpox sores usually appear suddenly and all at once.. However, if he doesn't seem to be sick, there are quite a few more possibilities. In that case, I would think it could be impetigo contagiosa if the bumps resembled tiny sores that were easily irritated by contact. However, if the bumps more closely resemble pustules or fluid filled blisters that are itchy, but not painful, its more likely to be bullous impetigo which is usually more prominent around the trunk. In contrast, however, the bumps you see also have the possibility of being a scabies infestation. A good indicator of this would be if his skin has taken on a pink or red tone throughout and the pustules are crusting.

Well, I'm no expert, but it sounds like something that I am suffering with at the moment. They called mine "swimmer's itch". Has he swam in a pond or lake this summer? Swimmer's itch it a parasite that attaches to your skin and causes an allergic reaction. (I know, it sounds gross) Mine has tiny bumps -- mostly on my back, but on my stomach and arms too. It itches like crazy. I've been to a doctor twice and the last time I thought I was over it with getting a strong cream and a steroid shot. But just recently it came back. I am going to make a dermatologists appt. under doctor's orders. If you want more info on Swimmer's itch just use your search engine and start reading. Hope this helped.

Has he gotten all his vaccinations (example: chicken pox)? I would suggest calling his pediatrician in the AM.
