On another question I posted someone said that they hold jobs and get married. Do they live in an alternate reality or are they disguised as humans?

Jinns, there are many types, shapes, abilities & strengths. Some can disguise almost as anything, e.g. persons, animals.
Yes, some do hold jobs for some individuals. To protect the house, their families.
I have relatives that keep Jinns to guard the house & the family. They allocate one room in the house for the Jinn (I can't enter the room, always closed).
His house has never had any burglary case, although most of the time the gate or the front door can be seen open wide or unlocked.
However, Islam does not encourage its followers to make friends with Jinns, fearing one would be too much dependable on Jinns & that one can be unaware that they sort of too much focus & worship Jinn instead of God.
Some Jinns choose to dwell in houses. Some in the forest. If they are disturbed, they may make you (in a distance) look like a deer in their eyes & make your friends shoot you.
And lastly, in comparison, humans are better than Jinns, as we are gifted with the best brain power among all God's creations.
We can be over powered by them or even killed by them (just like the old days where man afraid of animals, like snakes/lions/etc) because we do not study how to handle/defend ourselves from various species of them.
Someday, probably we will...

They can take any shape even animal shape but...I think it was when David was king that jins were locked so they dont do this things...they are made of smoke so they are a different nature from us

Different dimension but they can see us and we cannot see them.
Those who choose to follow evil join satan in the spiritual war against mankind.
They can also shapeshift into dogs or snakes.......
