My mom and dad foster children. They currently have 2 foster kids, twins, and they both have FAS. The boy has it the worst and can not talk, needs sleeping pills, daytime pills, constant supervision, etc. The girl seems like she is normal but has a bad attention span and is very difficult to work with in school. Other than that she is like any other child. My question is, sometimes she will start to tear up for no reason. She could be sitting at the table in the morning and she will start to tear up and won't answer you when you ask her whats wrong. If you push for an answer she comes out with "I don't know". Sometimes we also find her in the hallway standing there with tears in her eyes. (she doesn't wine, just has tears in her eyes). Why could she be doing this? My mom thinks its the FAS. What do you think this could be?

It's probably the FAS.

My inlaws have been fostering for over 10 years. If she is in a normal school setting and has difficulty keeping up she is more than likely being teased for her limitations...the fact that she is not with her bio family could also be a factor in the teasing as well. Children in school can be very cruel, maybe this is something that could be brought out in therapy as I am sure she must be required to go to if she is in theraputic foster care. Your parents' love and patience should help her to bond with them and likely be more open. Kudos to your folks, foster families are so valuable.

It begins as FAS, but can become a whole bunch of other things. Sounds like depression (which can be a big part of FAS).

Imagine living with stragers that drug you day and night because some doctor thinks they should. Sounds like a horrible nightmare. I'd be crying too. Just because the kids might have FAS doesn't mean they're not capable of feelings. Being in Foster Care is a very sad situation. Think of how the kids must feel. Get them off drugs. That's criminal.

it can be related to the FAS. How sad that these children have to suffer for the thoughtlessness of their birth mother.

You don't say how old these children are. Do they know (or remember) their real parents?

Are they missing them?

Prehaps you could give a little more information.
