Are you sure that she wants a pet? I mean really wants one?
I think that it is SO sweet that you love your sister so much. But I would make sure that you know in your heart that she REALLY wants to take full resonsibility for another living thing for the next 12-20 years! That is a big responsibility to wrap up as a gift!
Again.. I think that the thought is wonderful. Just be very careful.
Outside of that... Which does she like better. Training or poop scooping? An animal that wants to be glued to her or one that is more independant. You know her best. Go with that!

Depends on what your sister is looking for in a pet. Like others said, cats are more independent. Also, I think dogs will require more time than cats will. :)

Personality, I like birds & dogs. They both can get along with each other. Cats & Dogs can get along but end up hurting one another.

Cats are moody
Dogs are your side
Birds - do some of the cools things. Whistle, Talk, Do funny things like copy a dance that nysnc did and became famous. It was white cooktaoo. His name was Snowball he was all over the new. Youtube it you will see.

I think you should get a cat they are very friendly and don't get hyper every time someone comes to the door. Cats are very independant which makes them very good pets. They will give you lots of love and are very nice pets that do not require constant attention.

It depends....if you got a dog it would be a little harder to train and take care of but...there really good companions and they will always love you. if you get a cat it might be a little easier but there independent.

Cats are easier to take care of.
If it's her first pet, she should start with a cat.

I think you should make sure your sister wants a companion animal. If she does, you should take your sister to the local shelter and help her pick out a critter she wants.

If she is young ......has a lot of energy and wants to take walks, play fetch.....go to the park.........get her a dog.......
a boxer in my opinion........

If she's older and more the "stay at home and watch sitcoms on the bed eating ice cream" type ......get her a cat.....
