I am assuming from your question that you are in one of the states that begins with A, but I am unable to tell which state.
Generally speaking, most states now use a point system to suspend licenses. This point system is a little bit more restrictive for young drivers.
If you are worried about the effect of the ticket on your license, the time to talk to an attorney is now, not after you have done a mail-in plea. Not knowing what city or county this offense took place (and not practicing in your state), I can't tell you how severe your local judge and prosecutor will treat that violation. Only an attorney who actually practices regularly can. In most cases, however, you are better having an attorney who can explain your options than proceeding on your own.

Do not send the ticket in yet wait until the last minute and explore your options. How many points do you have left on your license? How many points is the ticket? When you get a ticket that is more then 4 points your best option is to get a traffic lawyer. They will almost always get the ticket reduce to less then any mail in plea bargain( for points mabey not money). As for the officer saying that he is going to check your record and have you suspended if you don't pay it asap this is not true ( they must wait until this ticket is settled). He can't do something like that after the fact.Paying a traffic lawyer $250 is usually your best option. Me and all of friends have used the same traffic lawyer where we live and he can get every ticket under 8 points dropped to some 0 point violation and if it is over 12 it will get dropped to 2 defective windshield ticket or something like that. It does cost more at the timne but you save the money in increased insurance fee's.

If you have had your license less than a year than it is more than likely that you will lose your license. But, if you have had your license more than a year and there are no other violations on your license then you will more than likely not lose your license. Make sure you pay your ticket you should be able to even pay it on-line. There is no need to go to court for a speeding ticket just as long as you pay it in time or you will have a warrant for your arrest! I also would like to say I live in Maine and we border eachother and our laws are pretty much the same.

That all depends on the laws of your state. Here in MA for example, if you got pulled over for speeding within the first 6 months of getting your license (FIRST time that is), you would LOSE the license for 90 days, plus you would have to go through driver training again, plus your PARENTS would also have to go through a 2 hour driver training course as well. On top of that, your insurance would go up AND in order to get your license back you would have to pay both the total cost of the speeding ticket AND a $500 fine on top of that. If it happened agian, the punishment is even worse and more costly. I'd say you got off VERY easy. Learn to slow down.

Unless you already have points against your license, no. Just pay the fine and be more careful in the future. He was being nice to you, in his own way.

Only if you don't pay the fine, or miss the court date.
