Remember when CDs were the digital audio standard. They came out with HD CDs but never caught on. They were killed by the MP3 which was replaced by MP4 in WMA and AAC.

Is this on the virge of happening with Video? I use netflix and really enjoy their online selection of videos.. It is so nice to have instant access to what I want to watch. I can't help but wonder if this is where Video is currently going.

AAC may be replacing the CD, but typical MP3 and M4P are poorer quality.

I suppose downloading HD 1080p content may some day replace HD disks, but not yet because there isn't much available yet.

In the meantime, 1080p is the theoretical limit on picture quality in our current national television system, a system that has only changed once since 1954 (if you don't count the addition of mts stereo sound in 1982.) HD-DVD and BluRay both meet that spec and are probably here to stay for quite some time.

In the future, three dimentional TV, more interactivity. Star Trek Holodeck? I hope so...

outdating will always happen...just the natural progress of media....however...I say that just as long as players dont become outdated as quickly...these formats will be around for a while. Beta lasted a while till VHS which is still used today then came DVD which is the norm until Blu-ray and HD-DVD came out so these 2 formats will continue for a while. UNtil a new format makes both obsolete or one wins over the other.

So far Blu-Ray is domintating as they own 70% of the HD market. I think blu-ray will continue 2 dominate becuase they have a blu-ray prototype that can hold up 2 100gb of things. Its w/e have more memory with disks.
