Dear Miss Jones:

For some reason I thought "Miss" should not be used.
Please advise.

Do you KNOW that (1) she is, in fact, a Miss, and (2) that she prefers Miss to Ms.? If she prefers Miss, it is her responsibility to let you know, not your responsibility to guess correctly. In the meantime, I'd stick with the more neutral and businesslike Ms.

Sounds fine to me, depending on who she is. If it's a teacher or a mentor that you usually call Miss Jones, I'd stick with it. I think Ms. is used more often though.

First you have to know their marital situation. If you do not then Ms. is the appropriate salutation.

If Miss Jones is not married you use Miss. If she is married you use Mrs. Simple as that.

i think Miss implies she's single and Ms. can be either/or.
or maybe it's the other way around...

i do not imagine you should use Sirs at the same time as WRITING THE LETTER if you're writing to lots of them of route purely one will examine it...so that you mustn't use sirs in letters at the same time as speaking its ok.. God Bless You..
