(I ask that in terms of rabbinical beliefs) I know the father determines who is an Israelite and who isn't, but is it possible that also women have that capability?

Yes, that *is* a good question. If the blood determines the lineage matrilinially then technically the Jewish faith should be led by the Mothers instead of the Fathers. Therebye also setting up a precedent also for Christianity and for Islam which are also based on essentially the same things. Ooooo....

Because in bible days the lineage went through the father. The mother line started because of persecution and women were raped. They changed it to the woman because as the Rabbi's say, "You always know for sure who the mother is, but you never really know for sure who the father is.

Sons always inherit. Daughters only receive an inheritance when there are no sons.

It's the Covenant that's passed through the mother. All children born to Jewish mothers are obligated to observe the 613 commandments. No rewards -- only obligations.

Your tribal affiliation is patrilineal. (That's really only a big issue at the moment for the leviim and the kohanim.) However, your connection to the Jewish people as a whole is matrilineal.
