Don't listen to the first guy who answered. Clearly he hasn't "been there" and/or is a jerk.

I got myself into nearly the same situation as you, last year when I was in 11th grade. It's awful, and it sucks, and I know the regret you must be feeling for what you did. You didn't even anticipate doing it, and now that you've done it, you probably wish more than anything that you could turn time back and do it differently (hopefully not do it at all).

All you can do is ride out the storm. The misdemeanor will be on your record until you're 18, and you will most likely be asked to pay a large fine when you go to court. The store may sue you for an amount as well. It does not matter who pays it (you or a parent) but it needs to be paid. I don't know whether the circumstances of your situation (i.e. your mom's health, financial stability, etc.) will be considered by the court but I think they should be. I can see you really hate yourself for doing this, and you should be smart enough to know nothing is worth doing it again. My advice to you is to stay strong, and truly be sorry, and show that you're sorry every second you can - to your mom and to whoever you talk to in court.

If you need more help, please contact me. I've been through this and I would be more than happy to help you.

I see you are off to a great start. Your mother has trained another criminal well. Enjoy your stay in jail.

Despite the answers posted by some people STEALING IS ALWAYS WRONG! Anyone that does not understand that simple fact needs to join you in jail.

If it was a simple fact of it was cold and you needed a coat there are many charities that have those. Yeah they are not new, but you don't have to become a criminal to get one.
Salvation Army
Goodwill
St. Vincent dePaul
United Way has a list of local charities.

in many components of Europe, begging (that's what you describe) is unlawful. So it particularly is no longer even a query ! What (particularly orthern) europe has finished is approached it from a 'family individuals' attitude, and whilst awaiting human beings to %. themselves up and be to blame, additionally helps them as a community whilst they're down. some call it social handouts, some call it helping your fellow guy. no longer that that's enormous wealth, in easy terms sufficient to maintain going till they might get a activity. so as that between the richest countires in the international leaves their own voters to go through by way of no fault of their own (no jobs, unpredicted extreme ailment etc), it does no longer reflect nicely on 'the dream'. yet saddness that any one 'desires' to do this and fall that low, i assume. and shame on behalf of those holding 'all' of their wealth selffishly to themseleves. ?

sounds like you have learned from your mistake. don't do it anymore, show your mom that you are a good person. you need to work to buy the things you want. tell the Judge that you are sorry and won't do it again.
Good luck in your future, God be with you & your mom.
