As my allergist explained to me, most allergies not only cause a stuffy nose--but sneezy or itchy eyes, palate or nose.

The fact that you have never had allergies and the stuffy nose and sore throat just came on suddenly, leads me to believe that you are getting a cold. Your nose is congested and the mucus is going down your throat (referred to as post-nasal drip).

There are so many variants of colds. Some will give you a cough, a fever. But, others will just appear with what the symptoms you are describing.

The treatment is the same. You need a decongestant to unblock your nose and make you feel more comfortable. You can buy these over the counter.

Also try breathing in steam from the shower--or after boiling a pot of water (turn the stove off) place your head over the pot and breath in the steam.

I get sinus infections 6-8 times a year, so I am a pro at this sort of thing by now. haha... Zicam always seems to help me breathe when I lay down at night. Get you some cough drops, sore throat drops, or some pills that will help with the congestion and sore throat. I'm sorry you are sick and hope you get better! Get in that hot bathtub, and put a wash cloth over your face and breathe the steam!!! :)

Probably. Some people get them in the spring, some in the fall. Plant life can also affect it. If you've moved to a new area you might find something you're allergic to. Sometimes you suddenly get allergies. I was 9 before I became allergic to grass. Talk to your doctor. They will be able to give you allergy medicine, or if it's not allergies, help you with the problem.

You'd have to get allergy tested to know for sure. But with the weather getting colder, the air is dryer which can cause stuffiness and sore throat. Try getting a humidifier or vaporizer for when it is really cold and dry out.
