Since extended family means all those outside the "family unit" hence mom, dad, and kiddos, your full of crap. You really don't understand the norm that much? Really? Ether way, it's not thrivin one bit. Were actually being forced within our societies to make NEW extended families based on circumstance and our own perceptions of human relationships, which hasn't been very good for anyone. Really I live out in south-east oklahoma, RURAL american, and I can see how the importance of the extended family has collaspe here, if it can't work here, it can't work anywere.....

Assuming your definition of "extended family" and mine are congruent (people you're not related to but adopt based on bonds of personalities and similar circumstances), industrialization /urbanization actually fuel their growth because people are more apt to move away from their traditional families in favor of better career opportunities elsewhere. These bonds they establish become even more significant and sustaining because we all crave human contact...and babysitters.

Well my family is certainly extended....to the four corners of the globe never to be seen again...not if they have any sense they won't.
