Great question! I have also used the word frequently. (fool). I think the main point is to be careful with our words. We will be judged by what we say as well as what we do.

Raca is an Aramaic swear word . The verse is saying you must not get angry with anyone without a good reason . If you do , you’ll be in danger of going to Hades – that non-existent Greek mythical Realm.

In the context to which it is written with, beforehand murder is talked about to be wrong, and then anger with your brother too. The word Raca means to hold in contempt. The Lord doesn't want us to murder, be angry with someone, and to treat them with contempt.
I know what you mean, I was taught to never call someone a fool, my mother was brought up that way too, her mother read the Bible.

Must be the KJ version. I have never heard the word "raca". Use a modern english Bible...it's easier to understand.

I heard from a professor that it has to do with using a different word but meaning the same thing. Like saying crap instead of shi_. Or heck instead of hell. Even though it is a different word it is still as bad as the original one.

Raca means worthless.

It is a big insult in God's eyes because no man is worthless.

It is written in one of the first four gospels Jesus says 'You fools'
Not sure where the exact verse is...it'll just take a min...
You blind fools!" (Jesus) Mat 23:17 "How foolish you are" (Jesus) Luke 24:25. "But God said to him, 'You fool!' " (Jesus) Luke 12:20

We are created in God's image which is perfect.

So if we curse another person because we are racists, we don't agree with their religious practices, or we just don't like them because.....we are cursing God and telling Him His creation is flawed....

If you hit my brother...then you have to deal with our entire family....
