I'm a Gnostic's Gnostic. Been Gnostic since I was born is what I like to believe, but actively came to see it about 4 years ago.
The da vinci code (did not read the book) has references to "Gnostic Scriptures" even though that label is an oxymoron, since all scriptures are Gnostic if one knows what Gnostic truly is about. Anyways it references the Gospel of Mary, which is seen as a Gnostic Christian scripture and Gospel of Phillip. What I can say about the da vinci code was even though it is fiction it gave rise to consciousness to the masses so they could see the truth, what is the genuine spirit of Christianity. Well it didn't really give consciousness bu it presented an opportunity for people to seek out the Gnosticism.
If you really want to explore Gnostic Thought you should go here, http://www.gnosis.org/library.html
The Gnostic scriptures are there.

Yes, the Da Vinci code is based on some gnostic traditions.
There is a lot of Cathar mythology and some from the Sethian and Sophian traditions as well.
I agree Passerby. I also think it opened the door to the desperatley needed femine aspect of the creator to reassert itself into the collective consciousness of the culture.

I have studied Gnosticism a little and yes I do believe that was loosely based on gnostic beliefs.
I don't totally subscribe to the gnostic faith but I do see alot of truth in it.

Gnostics were wiped out after the 4th century AD, because their beliefs didn't quite mesh with the Christian orthodoxy.
