Hall and stairwell are going to be painted a warm light yellow, eg. Banana. Should the doors and trim be painted a lighter yellow, a darker yellow, or has white trim returned to prominence? Or should I be considering something different all together?

I actually have a yellow room, eg. Banana, and my doors and trim are white. I do think it's your preference, just consider that using white is a more classic look(classy, too, in my opinion) And using another color would be more modern/bold.

I usually find white trim to be a way to unify the rooms in your home. If the other rooms are all white trim then white in the hall can help to tie it all together.
If in doubt buy some small cans of the colors you like and try them out...if you love it, go for it.

I could care less about what society dictates as far as in colors etc. I go with what is pleasant to my eyes because I'm the one living here, not the ones who set the trend. I chose white for my trim and doors including the closets and love it. I feel that every room in my house is inviting me in to relax and be confortable. No regrets here with white trim.
