I personally like Canon I think the best place to check out cameras and examples of the camera is @ amazon.com
They usually have free shipping on most cameras too depending on who it is.
I have a Canon Powershot SD600 and its amazing. theres tons of cool picture modes and you can record videos on it. Get a good size memory card for you camera once you buy one too because the ones they usually provide with the camera only hold like 10 photos. It depends how many photos and how much you use the camera but i would start off with a 256MB or a 512MB memory card for now. You can always move up.
hope that helps!

We need a LOT more info from you!
What is your level of proficiency in photography? Are you a snapshooter or a person interested in taking some time to learn about photography and maybe take some classes/seminars?
If you just want good snaps, then I'd recommend something like the Canon S3 IS or the Fuji S6000 or S700.
If you want to delve deeper into photography than just a snapshooter and develop at CVS, then a whole new world of SLR/DSLR opens up.
Then you've got Nikon/Canon/Pentax recommendations.
Again, though, we need a lot more information from you in order to give you the best answer we can.

Do your research. Nikon's have the best lens for the money if you are on a budget. Cannons are the most user friendly and Leica's are more expensive. Do you want digital? A point and shoot above 3mp will give you more than enough detail for every day photography. Ask yourself what you want to take pictures of and I will be more than happy to help you make a choice. My personal fav is a Mamiya medium format slr.

I shoot film on a nikon SLR. I had shot for years with a pentax and always love that. When I was ready for an upgrade to auto-focus I wanted another Pentax but the manual and auto focus lenses were not interchangable, so I choose Nikon since they offered the most lens choices and have been using the same lens attachments for years and look like they will for years to come.

well it depends on whether you are looking for a digital or a film camera. If you are looking at a digital I would get a Canon and it would run anywhere from 178.00 to 230.00, for a film it would also be a Canon and it would run from 350.00 to 400.00. in the digital make sure it has 4.5 to 5.0 pixels which take better pictures. I hope this helps

in Consumer Reports the best value for cameras is constantly Cannon. I gave the mag to a friend---it's an expensive decision and recommend you look at Consumer reports at your local library---it's within the last 3 months, big headline about cameras and copiers---and available to look at for free at your local library

This is akin to saying "I want to buy a car, which one should I get?" Everyone will have their favorite, but until you get it in your hand and give it a "test drive", you will never know which one is right for YOU.
