boyfriend bought me a hd ready dvd the other day but i only have a bog standard dvd player and the disc wasn't recognisable. we tried to return it to asda but they said that it can't be returned if the dvd has been played in a normal player.

is this right? why can't you do this? and finally, why are they stacking the hd ready discs side by side to the normal ones without notification that they don't work on normal players?

P.S. i know they have it written on the disc, what i mean is why there isn't a sign saying that these are not compatible with normal players

i suppose as far as asda are concerned you may have copied the disc, once the seal is broken on many electricals sellers tend not to accept them back, as for "twisted" i think "lonely saddo" would be more apt.

They have HD DVD written on the box, so you should be able to recognise them. I have no idea why they won't refund or exchange your HD DVD, the laser in the player won't damage the disc, maybe they're being funny about it.

There is no such thing as an 'HD ready DVD'.

You can buy HD ready televisions.

You can buy HD-DVD players.

You can buy HD-DVDs.

But you CAN'T buy 'HD ready DVD's.

Asda are not obliged to refund your purchase.
It's not their fault you bought the wrong disc.
It's not their fault you didn't read the box.
It's not their fault you don't know the difference between a standard DVD and an HD-DVD.
