I want to have a formal holiday party for my employees, does anyone have suggestions on a type of champange I can use? It will be on a Thursday from 6 - 9pm.

Well it's not Champagne since it's from California but for the price, Gloria Ferrrer makes a great sparkling wine.

Korbel is the best of the inexpensive champagnes. Moet is a little more expensive (about $15/bottle) but better. I advise you not to get a cheap champagne like J Roget unless you're mixing it into a punch. Have mixers such as orange juice and chambord on hand too. Some people don't like champagne, so it might be nice to have some regular wines (and, of course, non-alcoholic drinks) as well.

Chandon (Brut Classic or Blanc de Noir) are really good and are only about $15. Actually, they are currently on sale at Bevmo for $13 if you have one nearby. Its pretty common - enough that they are available at most grocery stores. They will give you a discount on a case (10-20% depending on the store).

Cheaper still are the proseccos and cavas because people don't know what they are and demand is low.

I second the recommendation for Cooks. I bought 3 cases for my wedding reception at $4 a bottle. Everyone thought I had spent $30 a bottle! And it's only about one step above Andre! Just don't let anyone see the label and nobody will ever know.

Consider Cava (spanish sparkling wine) I actually prefer this to most champagne.

Codorníu Reserva Raventos NV or Freixenet Cordon ***** NV are good examples.

Prosecco is another good alternative (less sparkles but easier drinking than Cava or Champagne for non regular drinkers)

For Champagne go for a smaller vineyard than bollinger or moet, again I like Heidsieck.

Jacob's Creek from Australia makes a very good sparkling wine.

Korbel is the safe bet for a party. You can also add chambord, cranberry juice, orange juice, or pineapple juice for different flavors.

You should try VEUVE CLIQUOT... It is amazing... it has a raspberry finish. If you want to try it at first to see if you like it.
