that I shouldn't use baby wipes when my daughter has a diaper rash. Is this true and why? I was also told I shouldn't use cornstarch baby powder and I was wondering if that was true.

Well, the wipes will burn your butt if they're used with a diaper rash. So no, save your kid some pain and yourself a headache and don't use them.
The cornstarch is good for rashes that are moist. So its ok to use the cornstarch. It will help to dry the rash up and wont get into the lungs as easy as regular baby powder. Just use it like the baby powder. To make it easier to use, you can put the cornstarch in a Cleans salt/pepper/spice shaker.
For a dry diaper rash try the otc brands like Desitine or Balmex.
To help prevent the rashes just put some Vaseline (petroleum jelly) or any brand of pretroleum jelly on the babe's bottom to use a barrier against wetness.
If nothing else works, the doctor can get you a prescription for a diaper rash creme. Some of these prescriptions Can actually be painful on the bottom just like the wipes.
If baby's rash starts bleeding ,ever, make sure you get her to the doctor to get the rash checked out, because secondary infections can occure and make things much worse than they should have been.
All these things, except the cornstarch and shakers are found with the baby things...

Congrats!!!!!!!!

Diaper wipes can leave a film on the skin, making diaper rash more irritating. Use lots of plain warm water and a little mild soap - like Dove - when cleaning your daughter off. Also - air is the best thing for a diaper rash. If you can let her go without a diaper, do it. (If not, attach the diaper loosely at her waist to get some air moving around there.)

Never heard the cornstarch baby powder one.

Lots of people still seem to think that baby wipes contain alcohol. They used to, but they don't anymore. You can use the unscented kind of baby wipes on diaper rash.

I've never heard that there's anything wrong with cornstarch baby powder. I was always told it's the talc-based powder that's bad and to use cornstarch instead.

The fragrance in the wipes and preservative can irritate a bad rash. I stick to warm wet wash cloths when my baby had a rash. Powder is bad cornstarch is OK.

The reason that you don't want to use baby wipes, is because most of them contain perfume and alcohol. There are some that you can use, though, I believe they are put out by Huggies. I think they are called 'Natural Care' or something. They contain no alcohol, or perfume, and I believe that they have aloe in them. Those would be ok to use. As far as cornstarch goes, I was told just because it really doesn't help, and can dry out your baby's bottom. Cornstarch is used to soak up moisture, and on babies, can cause over dryness on the bottoms. If you want to control wetness on your baby's bottom, try simple old A & D ointment.

Good Luck

Baby wipes burn's them when you wipe them so they feel alot more pain. Cornstarch baby powder doesn't let the area heal as fast.

Wipes have alcohol in them. It irritates the skin and makes rashes worse. The baby powder can clog pores, making the rash worse.
