"All truly wise thoughts have been thoughts already thousands of times; but to make them truly ours, we must think them over again honestly, till they take root in our personal experience."
~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I love Goethe. :)

He is, of course, speaking of the inherent goodness that is in all; contrary to Christian doctrine, man is not inherently evil, but inherently good. The potential of that good, however, is unrealized until the inspiration of that inherent wisdom is breathed to life in us.

We must apply the goodness within ourselves in an active fashion, and to this we must have it speak to us on a personal level. True wisdom must be active, not passive, and only when we have the motivation that comes from our unique expression of the ageless wisdom, until we wear that wisdom in our own fashion, until we move within that wisdom and feel it a part of ourselves, it shall only remain passive.

The wise thoughts Goethe spoke of are seeds, initially; our meditating on them in honest contemplation brings them to fruition.

The product of this wisdom appears to be "Science".

According to the book of Genesis in the Old Testament, at the center of the Garden of Eden next to the Tree of Life was also a Tree of Wisdom -- a Tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Humans disobeyed God's command and ate of its fruit, so God banished humans from the Garden of Eden and imposed many discomforts upon them.

So, humans beings were banished from the Garden of Eden in exchange for obtaining wisdom.

I disagree. I think there are people who because they are genius or an old soul can conceive of an original epiphany that can benefit all of mankind. For them there is no need to study their masters and become what they are taught. These people are masters in their own miraculous right.

There is indeed nothing new under the sun. Every man's thoughts to him are original, and yet may be shared, but it is the individual that brings forth fruit that prospers from his wisdom.

disagree. i think there are some thoughts that have never been thought.

for instance, no one before 1900 thought about how to make the black and white tv display color. there were no tvs....so, no....i think as technology evolves, so does our thought process.

Not true. Newton's inception of physics -- new. Einstein's Relativity -- new. There are new ideas, but most are variations on old ones.
