I accidently bought Hunt's Tomato sauce instead of crushed tomatoes. Is there a difference besides one being smoother? Will it work for salsa?

It will work, but the taste will be different than having whole tomatoes.

No. Salsa is chunky with pieces of tomato, onion, peppers, cilantro, garlic, etc. I prefer to use fresh tomatoes that have been peeled, but in a pinch, I have used drained, canned tomatoes. Put everything in a blender and pulse until right consistency.

Personally I think salsa should be made from freshly chopped ingredients. The idea of canned sounds disgusting to me and with tomato sauce, even worse. If you can't make it fresh, I'd buy Pace Picante or Herdez.

tomato sauce is like a puree, but i guess it would taste okay, tomatoe is tomatoe. I prefer chunky salsa, but whatever works.
