If you put them in the frig. they will get brown, BUT the insides normally are still "fresh," personally I dislike cold bananas, but some people like them.

A friend finely wised me up on getting one of those cheap plastic banana hangers. I hang my bananas now instead of just laying them on the counter and they last almost twice as long.

hang them on a stand, keep them open away from any object that will touch them. for some reason they go bad quicker if something touches them. A cool place will help too, my house is stuffy, so they go bad quicker. I buy them greener if i know it'll be a few days before i finish the bunch.

Keep them out in the open, where the gas they give off while ripening won't work on them. And only buy what you'll use in a couple days, then go buy more.

as soon as they are perfectly ripe throw them in the fridge, the cold stops them from ripening any further. be warned the skin will turn dark brown, but the fruit inside doesn't change
