Because the very 1st dog peed there. Then the 2nd dog had to cover up the smell of the 1st dog. Then then 3rd dog had to cover up the smell of the 2nd dog and so on and so on....

Yes a few people said it. One dog pees and leave a message for the other dog. Then that one pees on it and so on and so on. You might be saying what message? Well dogs have amazing sense of smell and can tell the pee is from a male a female, or a dog inheat , and much more. It is also a territory thing as well. Leaving their smell so the others know they were there too. Also I think the higher the pee the bigger the dog seems. My Female will squat and lift her leg. she has to make sure her sent is smelt. It is so embarrassing.

It's not just Fire hydrants. It can be a bush a fence, tree, rock, you name it. I like the answer about In NY city and other cites thats all dog have to pee one.

Couple things: First off, the entire fireplace hydrant factor is slightly problematic. The primary cause puppies will pee at and round hydrants, is on the grounds that its a vertical floor. The secondary intent puppies will pee there, is in view that puppies pee there. The smells that build up in that place make it a more 'attractive' position to urinate (or as a minimum will get them enthusiastic about the notion). We've obtained a spot external the vet medical institution the place generally each canine that is available in will pee (male or female), its simply that 'attractive' of a place. Typically talking ladies won't lift a leg to pee. This isn't an absolute rule, however i would say 99+% of women will squat handiest. My male does a combination. He'll elevate his leg oftentimes, and squat other occasions (depends on a form of explanations). Some males clearly do not raise their legs in any respect.

They don't really pee on it JUST because it's a fire hydrant. Dogs like to pee on trees, or anything for that matter. Fire hydrants are perfect, they're at their level and look like tree trunks.

Once a dog pees on it, another dog will come along and sniff it. When a dog pees on something and another dog sniffs it, most of the time they will pee over it. It's like instant messaging. "hay, 4 yr old malteez, dominunt, not nootered, i hav a urinary problum" And it's an endless cycle. A dog smells pee on it, so it pees on it too. Another dog comes along and smells Fido's pee, so it pees on it too,

This is why it's important to thoroughly clean areas in your house where your dog(s) have peed. As long as the pee is still there or they can still smell it, they will continue to pee there.

Couple issues: first of all, the entire fire hydrant factor is slightly complicated. the generally happening reason canines will pee at and around hydrants, is in basic terms by the fact its a vertical floor. The secondary reason canines will pee there, is in basic terms by the fact canines pee there. The smells that boost in that area make it a greater 'appropriate' place to urinate (or a minimum of gets them questioning appropriate to the belief). we've a niche exterior the vet medical institution the place extraordinarily plenty each canines it quite is on the market in will pee (male or woman), its in basic terms that 'appropriate' of a area. generally speaking women won't raise a leg to pee. it is not an absolute rule, yet i might say ninety 9+% of girls will squat in basic terms. My male does a mix. he will raise his leg each each now and then, and squat different situations (relies upon on a sort of factors). some adult males certainly do not raise their legs in any respect.

Because there are fire hydrants to pee on. Whatever it is (wall, tree, hydrant, tire), a dog pees AGAINST sthg bc the higher up they pee on sthg the farther the scent will travel.

LOL...I refer to hydrants and trees as "my space" for dogs. I tell the kids...if our dog is sniffing she's checking her messages and if she's peeing she's posting her message...LOL
