We have a week left on our canned food drive in our office, and have NO cans yet! How can I get the other people in my office to bring in cans/money by the end of the week?

no one has donated food? that's deplorable. i think an inter office memo might help or an announcment over the loud speaker

Well for one, the nation wide food drive for the boy scouts of america is going on. Everyone has a plastic bag hanging from their door that they are expected to fill. That could be one of the reasons nobody is bringing in food.
As far as ideas, the best one I have seen (and used) is this.
Have a contest to see who brings in the most canned foods. Whoever brings in the most gets their lunch bought on friday (or other day). It may cost you a few bucks, but it would be worth it. If you are the office manager, maybe you have petty cash, which could be used.
If you had time, reminders could have been put in with paychecks, but since this is your last week, that won't work.

The first you can do is bring some in, this shows somebody is interested. Then where ever you are donating them too maybe they could give you some numbers about how many people in your area need help this time of year and how many kids may not get a holiday meal, if the kids don't get them, you;ve got trouble.

Split into teams and have a friendly contest. It's sad but true, some people will give just because they want to beat the other guys. But, the result is the same, more food.

That was happening at my husbands work so I sent him a big box of food to work and said tell the people I challenge them to do the same. Well they have collected lots of food and one guy even held a raffle and collected $250. Someone has to start the ball rolling.

You could try writing up a 'wish list' for the most needed items, circulate it by hanging flyers or if it's ok with your employer by e-mail, and remind of everyone of the cut-off date.

I'd also 'prime the pot' by placing my donated items in the collection box.

The agency you are collecting for should be able to give you a 'most wanted' or 'wishlist'.

Good Luck!

Offer a free lunch to the employee who bring in the most---will only put you out a couple of dollars and it will start a competition among them.
