First off, congratulations! Your new fuzzball will need additional shots every three weeks until he is twelve weeks or thirteen in your case. He will need to be wormed every couple of months (or do a fecal test at your vet's office. At twelve weeks, he can get a preliminary (starter) rabies vaccine. If you are going to neuter him, you can schedule his procedure and they can vaccinate while he is sleeping so that it is less stressful. If he is for show and breeding, he must not be neutered, so he will have to get his shot awake, but your vet can have you distract him with a treat.

Also, you should have some health testing done. With Huskies I recommend CERF testing in the next month or so. It is not an expensive procedure. I paid $30.00 for each of my dogs.

At one and two years old, please do not forget to have his OFA hips and elbows done. This test diagnoses dysplasia, a bone deformity which can be excruciating for your dog as he gets older. The sooner you know, the better prepared you are to treat it as he gets older.

Lastly, you should get a thyroid function test. It is less likely that your Husky will have a thyroid disorder than hip or elbow dysplasia, but it is present in our breed.

I hope all of this helped without overwhelming you. If you need any other questions answered, do not hesitate to ask! Best of luck to you and your boy!

Thanks for thinking ahead!

I would recommend finding out about a local puppy kindergarten class - these help with basic training and common problems, as well as get the dog socialized.

If a class is not an option for you, make sure to get the puppy out in the real world. They need to hear, see, and smell all that's around them at an early age, and early socialization will help create a well rounded adult dog.

As for shots, there are usually 3 sets a puppy needs, but some vets are now doing only 2 and combining some of the later shots. Call your vet and ask what they typically do, and go with their recommendation.

first congratulations on canine ownership.

second shots are normally done at 6-9-12 weeks for the combination 5 or 7 ways, then 16 weeks rabies. Neutered from 4-6 months of age and loved unconditionally. then next year a 5 or 7 way and rabies then updated every 2 yrs.

plus call your vet any time you are uneasy about something. go with your gut feeling.

Check with your vet. I believe they need shots every 4 weeks until they are 4 months old. He'll need to be neutered at 6 months along with his rabies shot. Start crate training now and learning to go potty outside. Teach basic commands...sit, stay etc. Get him switched over to a good food and keep him on a schedule. He may cry at night, I found that a ticking clock wrapped in a towel helps soothe them. It reminds them of their mom. Plenty of toys as Huskies are a smart active breed. And lots and lots of love! Good luck and congrats!

There are two more sets of shots that he'll need. Make sure when he's old enough taht you take him to obedience school. Husky's can be a little hard headed. Just be consistant and stick with what you want. Good luck with your new baby! I hope he's everything you wanted!

He will need another set of shots at 12 wks. And then at 6 months - since he will then be old enough for a rabies shot.

Call a vet that you will be taking him to and ask. They will tell you over the phone what shots are needed and when.
Then they will set up an appointment and you will be all set.
Congrats on the new pup.

You should call the vet you plan on using and ask them when you should bring him in for his first check up. At the first appointment they will tell you what vaccines/meds he needs and how often you need to bring him in for the shots.

Good luck and congrats!!

he will need his booster shots at 12wks to make sure he doesn't get parvo or anything all so you need to introduce your dog to alot of people my boss says best if your dog meets 100 new people by 6 months i know it sounds crazy but if you don't then your dog might be very skittish and bark at very thing

Your vet should let you know when and what shots are next. And house breaking will probably continue beyond. He may have it this week and forget(lol) next week.
