If by World War Three you mean an all-out nuclear exchange, I'm lucky. I live near a primary target. I'm going to be vaporized. I won't even see the flash
Those who survive the attack in some kind of shelter, might do ok until the food and water ran out. Any food and water on the outside will be irradiated to fatal levels. You can choose to not eat and starve, or you can choose to eat and die of radiation poisoning... kind of like being microwaved from the inside out.
If you are able to find a source of safe food and water, the next thing you'll face is the nuclear winter caused by all the stuff that's been blasted into the atmosphere and blocks the Sun's rays from reaching the ground and heating Earth. Remember, you have nothing safe to use as a source of fuel. You burn wood, you will breathe the radioactive smoke from the irradiated wood.
So...
I'll vaporize..
If I don't vaporize, I'm probably going to die of thirst or starve to death.
After the food and water run out, I'll probably die or radiation poisoning from eating contaminated food and drinking contaminated water.
If I don't die in the first month or so from dehydration or starvation, or from radiation poisoning, I'm going to freeze.

The first thing you need is a decent basement or better yet a fallout or blast shelter, something below the ground will do. If you do not have anything like that go to someone else's basement.
Likely they will not know what to do and you will be saving their lives as well. Dirt and concrete in sufficient amounts can lessen the effects of the radiation so that it can not kill you. Cover openings, basement windows, etc. with dirt and if more than a few feet of the walls of the basement are above ground level you may need to build another structure within the basement.
A few feet of dirt or concrete between you and the radiation can save your life. If you stock food and water for about three weeks and stay in the shelter for that period of time the radiation outside will usually have disipated (a geiger counter can determine this)...
At that point the danger is over in your area, as long as you avoid contaminated water or food. Open water is probably contaminated while well water should be fine. Open food will be contaminated while canned or wrapped food will be fine as long as you wash the dust off first.
Near ground zero, you'll be a shadow on the cement. Do you want a quick ending, or try to survive the agony and barbarity that is sure to follow?

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.
According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

There would be a real slim chance of anyone surviving a nuclear holocaust. Hopefully I'll be with a good looking girl, drinking a beer, and waiting for the world to end.

Are you crazy? We are no longer in a period of time wear the threat of nuclear war existed. The only reason I worry about nuclear weapons is the fear of rogue nations having them. Iran, Palistine, other countries like them that would use them if they had them. They would use nuclear weapons without provocation. That is the only time I fear nuclear weapons.

This was a question I got to ask myself a lot durring the Cold War. The answer was, of course, that I wouldn't. There are too many attractive targets near where I live.
