First of all, you don't rent a stud dog, you pay a stud fee. You need to educate yourself. How old is the female? She should be at least 2 years old before she should have any puppies. Has she had genetic testing done? She could have something genetically wrong and pass it down to her pups. Does she fit breed standards? No use breeding her if she is not good quality. Is she healthy? Not only in appearance, but is she strong enough to carry and give birth to a litter. Have you proven her in some sort of show? Responsible breeders prove their dogs are good enough in obedience, rally, conformation, aglity, flyball, or some other dog related showing. How will you choose responsible homes for the puppies? Will you have a contract with the new owners? What if a puppy needs to be returned? What if something goes wrong? Are you prepared for complications?
I would go and discuss things over with a vet and a breeder. Educate yourself on everything, from conception, to birth, to finding puppy homes, to giving puppies over to their new home. You can google a shih tzu breed club in your area and talk with different breeders. Go back to your dog's breeder and ask lots of questions. If you can, meet with a breeder and see how things are done. Is this really something you want to put your little girl through? A lot of things can go wrong and she could even die. Just please be responsible and really consider why you want to breed. It should not be for profit or because you think it'll make your dog a better pet. Those are not the reasons to be breeding. You should only breed to better the breed.

I agree with all the other in that you more than likely don't know what you're doing if you don't know to ask for stud service.
I don't believe, however that you have to be a show person to breed. But, you should know the breed inside and out. What diseases/conditions they are prone to, and have your dog genetically tested so she does not pass a bad trait on to pups. I know first hand the heartbreak of getting a pup and having to make the descision to go through endless surgeries and bad health or return to the breeder because of a totally preventable condition.
Small breeds have to have c-sections a lot. Are you prepared to cover the cost? Are you prepared to loose the mother?
Shih-tzus are being overbred like cockers were in the 80's, and basset hounds in the 70's. The bad tempered and deformed were euthanized by the hundreds. Shih-tzus are suffering for the same ignorace. Please reconsider.

well obviously u dont know the first thing about breeding and should just spay ur dog. it takes more to breed a dog than just having two dogs mate and then wait for a few weeks it takes so much more than that. there is also the planning ahead. who r going to take the dogs when u r ready for them to go. what supplies do i need to go buy. do i have the money to pay for a 1000-3000 dollar c section. do i have a disposable income. honestly if ur coming on here and asking about "renting" a dog then u just need to get ur dog spayed. is ur dog even breeding quality. u breed to better the breed. not to make a puppy or to make some cash. if ur dog was of breeding quality and she was a champion dog u wouldnt even be asking this question u would have stud dog owners lining up to breed her

Really you shouldnt. Unless you have completed conformation and health testing, you shouldnt breed your dog, along with the fact that if you dont even know where to find a good stud you dont know enough to breed a dog safely. Do yourself your dog and all the shih tszus being put down in shelters every day a favor and dont breed your dog.

If you do not know the terminology of breeding, why do you want to breed your female for? It's not for rent. It's called stud services. So, you decide to breed your purebred female. Have you considered the following points:
- Is she AKC registered?
- Are you actively showing your Shih Tzu?
- Do you have a mentor to give you guidance?
- Does she have champion bloodline in her pedigree?
- What is the main reason you want to breed her? For the betterman of the breed?
- What do you want to improve her on this breeding?
If any of the answers is no, you shouldn't breed. Please have her spayed. She is a purebred doesn't you have the righ to breed her. If you are showing her, you can ask your breeder for stud dogs recommendation.

Why do you want to breed her?
I'm sure, since you want to breed her, that she has been shown & she is a champion.
I'm sure that she has also been tested for all of the genetic diseases inherent to Shih Tzus. If NOT, then get her spayed.
The world isn't hurting for more poorly bred Shih Tzus.
If you're doing it to make money - then I suggest you just go a head & get a job.

Honey, please don't. Seriously, go on petfinder and see how many need homes. Nobody in their right mind will "rent' you their male. You need to have your dog health certified for all diseased known to the breed, and the same for the male....you need to show your dog to ensure it is the proper structure/type for the breed....and you need to really know what you are doing, especially with this breed. So many things can go wrong, you could lose your girl during birth!!
Seriously, don't breed them, you are only doing all the others in the world a disservice.

You dont' rent a dog for breeding purposes. You get a dog for stud and then you are probably charged a stud fee. I would check with the breeder where you got your dog.

You should get her spayed there are already enough dogs in shelters. Especially since you dont know what the right term for 'renting' a dog is. Do the world and her a favor and spay her
