The bible is not a reliable history book because many of its texts were written several years (sometimes several centuries) after the fact.

--WOULD IT NOT be something if indeed is the most accurate of history books ever, these people think so:
*** g84 3/22 p. 10 Why Should I Read the Bible? ***
“The Bible is WORTH ALL (my caps) other books which have ever been printed.”—Patrick Henry, American statesman
“I am convinced that the Bible becomes even more beautiful the more one understands it. Let culture and science go on advancing, and the mind progress as it may, it will never go beyond the elevation and moral culture of Christianity, as it glistens and shines forth in the Gospels.”—Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, German writer
“I find more sure marks of authenticity in the Bible than in any PROFANE HISTORY (my caps) whatever.”—Sir Isaac Newton, British scientist
“ . . . probably the most influential collection of books in HUMAN HISTORY (my caps) Whatever one may think of the Bible’s contents, its role in the development of western culture and in the evolution of many eastern cultures makes at least some acquaintance with its literature and history an indispensable mark of the educated man.”—The Encyclopædia Britannica
“It is the best book that ever was or will be in the world, because it teaches you the best lessons by which any human creature who tries to be truthful and faithful can possibly be guided.”—Charles Dickens, English author
The Best
“To say nothing of its holiness or authority, the Bible contains more specimens of genius and taste than any other volume in existence.”—Walter Savage Landor, English author (1775-1864).

We do not have "so-called belief" in the Bible; we have "BELIEF" in the Bible. And to answer your question, yes the first few books of the Bible are a History of the creation and the people of Israel.

You are going against what's in most world history books. When I teach social studies to middle schoolers the text books talk about the Bible as being a book used by two of the worlds 5 largest religions. Why are you so afraid of it. Admitting that it is a book with history in it does not mean that you have gone down the "dark path" to conversion if that's what you believe.

Yes, the Bible is also a history book. And I like to think my belief is more than 'so-called'.

What your definition of "fundamentalist"?
I will assume that you are talking about groups similar to the Independent Baptists.
Do Theists believe in the existence of God?
Your question in this case, by definition, yes.

NELSON GLUECK, a renowned Jewish archaeologist, wrote, “it may be stated categorically that no archaeological discovery has ever controverted a biblical reference.”
He continued by commenting on, “the almost incredibly accurate historical memory of the Bible, and particularly so when it is fortified by archaeological fact.”

Where the Bible points to historical events, particularly in books like Jeremiah and Daniel, it is unerringly accurate. The real purpose of the Bible isn't to give it's readers history lessons though, it's to teach us God's requirements for worshipping him as he wished to be worshipped.
