The ears should be cropped between 7 and 9 weeks of age. Some vets will do them up to 12 weeks of age.

Ears are not cropped at such a young age like someone said. They are done between 8 and 12 weeks of age, depending on your vet.

between 7-12 weeks of age,
just know that if you do it its a LOT of work.
It takes a long time for the ears to stand, sometimes you are still taping the ears when the puppy is 6month plus. post surgery care is tough. you have to watch the puppy all the time to make sure he doesn't scratch the ears. it is really itchy for them when the ears are healing and it is heart breaking to see them go through it. the first 10 days after the surgery you have to clean the ears every day. you have to watch our for infections and make sure you keep the ears clean and dry and keep your puppy from scratching. During this time, they will try to do everything possible to get the posting of their head, they shake their head and they try to constantly scratch. Typically after 10 days, the stitches are out and if the ears are healed you have to start posting the ears and this goes on and on until the ears stand. posting is typically done every week, this can get pretty expensive if you don't know how to do it yourself and have to take your dog somewhere to get it done. you have to be consistent, otherwise there is a big chance the ears will never stand properly. posting is done typically by taping ears around with tape, and when you repost you have to take the tape off, the dog will hate it, cause the tape comes off with hair on it and it really hurts them (like getting a wax every time). by the time the ears are more or less standing the ears look much balder than the rest of the puppy.

before making this decision, think long and hard if
1) do you really care enough to put your dog and yourself through it
2) and are you committed enough to see it to the end

8-12 weeks. Your breeder should have done it. If they didnt I wouldnt buy the puppy. Any responsible doberman breeder will crop their ears before they go to homes.

My registered Pits ALL have natural ears. As far as AKC dogs, I read not too long ago that cropping wasnt necessary to show in AKC sanctioned events. Are you showing your Dobe or is this just a cosmetic choice for you?

Where I am it is illegal to crop a dogs ears or tail, unless it has to be done for medical reasons.
Personally I wouldn't want a dog to which this has been done. I own a mini-foxy (which traditionally had their tails lopped off) with an uncropped tail and do prefer him the way he was born.

Usually at a very young age, 6-8 weeks. Your vet could give you what they normally recommend.

Also, do you plan to show the dog? If not, I would suggest not having them cropped. It is basically just a "show" move, and does not impair or assist the dog physically. It can be very painful for the dog, as well as very expensive for you.

If you aren't showing him - and I'm sure you're not or your breeder would have had them cropped - then just leave them natural. They look really cute like that.

well it depends if ur planning on showing ur dog do it at about 8 weeks. if ur not planning on showing i wouldnt do it. it just puts the dog through unnecessary pain just for a cosmetic reason

ASAP!! Most people get them cropped when they are only a few weeks old. don't listen to anybody saying you shouldn't do it because i have 3 doberman pincher's and they all have their ears cropped.
