The initial hit is usually around 5.5 g's, it tapers off fairly quickly then another 5.5 g's when the chutes are deployed. Some drivers had to retire because the act of deploying the parachutes was damaging their eyes.

Its around 5 G's at the start and goes about reverse 5 G's when you pull the chutes. They have to tighten down the saftey belts or they are gonna have some sore ribs when you pull them chutes!!
