No, but there are a lot of people out there that when they're wanting advice are really just wanting to be told that what they WANT to do is okay. For example, say you killed someone...you come to me for advice on what you should do, I'm going to tell you to turn yourself in. But that's not what you want to hear; you want to hear my approval of your idea to stash the body and drive to Mexico. Same theory. But if someone is genuinely trying to find a solution to something (like someone that has tried to quit smoking unsuccessfully about 8 times but wants to keep trying), the last thing I'm going to do is tell them they need to give up.

Im not opposed to giving someone hope if it is good for them. How ever if it is my experience that something is not a good idea then I try to redirect. Some people ask hopeless questions like Im living with an abusive person but Im afraid to leave. Well unless he leaves there isnt much to be said. I think people ask hopeless questions for a reason and that is they dont want a answer. Even then I steer clear of those questions because I can be blunt. How ever if Im in the right mood I pretty much say it how I see it and if they dont aggree then they can certainly ignor me.
I feel sorry for young people who are throwing their lives away on people who really dont know how to love and certainly have not lived long enough to see all the possibilities and certainly not all their potential.
I try to not say it wont work for them because it didnt work for me but how bad do things have to get before you say hay your going the wrong way. Grampa B

You should never do that.
It is very demoralizing.
