In Texas, you are supposed to have a plate on the front and the back.

I worked at a dealership in Texas and a lady bought a car from there. She came back later, very angry because she got a ticket for not having a plate on the front. There was no mount on the front for it. The make ready department had to improvise a front mount for the car so she could have the plate up there. That was the first time that I heard that in Texas, you need a plate on the front and in the back.

No, it's not legal. It's only legal to do that if you're putting up a temporary license plate, that's on paper. But for your actual license plate, it has to go on the bumper or wherever the spot is on your vehicle.

It depends on which state or province you are from. Some states or provinces it is only required to have one plate at the back of your vehicle. Other states and provinces require you to have a plate both at the back and front of your vehicle. You will know when you register your vehicle, they will either give you one plate or two.

Looks like there was a bill introduced this year in Texas to allow for that, but I didn't see a final resolution. Your best bet is to call your local DMV and find out. Beats standing in line..
