We're having the entire backyard redone and the job costs $1200. If it makes any difference (not sure if it does or not), we're paying in cash. How much do we tip him? He has a crew of about 3 or 4 regulars working with him.

I meant to say $12,000 (as in, $12K), not $1200.

Why should you tip him, you have agreed on a contract price and you should only pay the agreed amount.

Don't tip the landscaper. The cost of the materials, time, and transportation are all part of the $1200 fee you are being charged. You can offer hot coffee in the morning, snacks, and cool drinks throughout the day to the workers if you wish.

Paying cash has no bearing on the situation. Between the two of you, you have come to an agreement on what will be paid for what type of work. No tipping necessary.
Do you get tipped for doing your job? Most of us don't. I am a person who believes Tipping is a place in China.

the job was $12,000, not $1,200. I had the same question for a job close to $15,000. Still no tip?

I would think of the service they gave you besides THAT, like NOT CUSSING, NOT GOOFING OFF, BEING EFFICIENT, KNOWLEDGABLE, YOU KNOW,.....

Feel your heart and see if it wants to part with more moolah---for their services. me? I would. Prob'ly about $200. $50 each. -pretty good.
