so i'm applying for a new job and there's a question that asks were you fired from your last job or did you quit. i think if i didn't want to show up for work that it would mean that i quit. right?

yes it means you quit, but your previous employer is free to tell them that you never showed up for work.

Its up to your job what they want to classify it as.
Both reasons are just as bad on your record.
You should have put in a 2 week notice that u was going to quit, and stick out for 2 weeks.
Sometimes your management will tell u to leave and not let u finish your 2 weeks.

Policies can be different, at my moms work if you don't show up and don't call for three days, you are no longer employed. And it means you quit though, but it probably won't make you look good if your new employer calls your old employer for a reference. It's much better to be upfront with it rather than just not showing up.

Be advised that since you did not give notice the former company can let the new company know that you left with no notice during a background check as it is truthful. And that will speak volumes to the new company to hear that.

It's treated as if you quit because the choice was yours not to show up.

That will bar you from getting unemployment.

If you didn't show up, you effectively quit.

If you don't show up, you quit. May I also add that's very ignorant. Not fair to the employer nor the other employees that probably had to cover your ***.
