A magnet can be destroyed by hammering
This causes the molecules to become arranged at random with the poles pointing in lots of different directions.
Heating a piece of magnetized iron or steel strongly in a flame will demagnetize it.
This causes the molecules to become arranged at random with the poles pointing in lots of different directions
Smashing or burning the toy microwave seems a bit drastic,
How about putting a piece of sticky tape or masking tape on each half to lessen the strength/effect till it's thick enough.

Rather than change the magnet's force, place a little piece of plastic or wood over the top of the magnet. You'll have to determine the thickness. Once you've got it, apply to the surface with a hot glue gun.

Try putting a bit of thick tape, e.g. Insulation tape or Duck tape on one side, it might take the edge off it . Otherwise more drastically, one part of the catch will be a magnet, the other a bit of steel. If you can, take off the steel bit and cut it in half.

If you want to start a woodworking project, you need all the necessary information, including schematics, blueprints, materials lists, dimensions etc. That is where Teds Woodworking comes in. The plans are clearly drawn and there're step-by-step explainations of how the plan should be done and put together. Go here https://tr.im/FHG7W
There are several other sites whose collection of plans have the dimensions totally wrong without any indication of parts lists, material lists or the tools needed. If you're one of those people who have bought plans like this in the past, Teds Woodworking will change your perception.

Heating or hammering. But the others who told you to put tape over it have the best idea!
