I'm looking for something either very simple or bit funky. Anything from a rental house to a rooftop bar would work I am just having a hard time finding anything besides a basic restarant or hotel typical wedding.

Try Hotel Laguna! ( I know you said not the normal but) You can get married on there private beach or in there garden. They have two different hall that over look the ocean one even has a patio that is on the sand. They do all the catering and your guest can stay there for the night. The best part is that a lot is included. Coordinator, all wait staff, bartender, your room for the night, the grooms changing room, set up, and clean up, tables, liens, dishes, etc.. it amazing! It is a older but historic hotel with a wonderful view. I am getting married there in June this coming year! Oh and you don't need permits to get married on there beach because it is private. Talk to Damon he is so helpful!

You can also do a bed in breakfast or your fav pizza parlor. How about on a sm cruise line (the ones that go around the bay)

Best wishes to you in finding your perfect place!

The Estancia La Jolla has been awarded by 10 news san diego as the best place for a wedding venue. They specialize in out door weddings with outdoor receptions. The hotel has a high end rustic equestrian theme to the hotel with a southern Californian flare...
Heres channel 10 news list:
1. Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa (winner)
2. Sheraton La Jolla Hotel
3. Hotel Del Coronado
4. The Grande Colonial La Jolla
5. L'Auberge Del Mar

There is also Balboa Park in San Diego
The actual ceremony would be gorgeous if you were to do it outdoor. Lush garden areas.. or you can do it in the rose garden. The architecture at the park is very detailed and great for photos.. There you can have your reception catered by The Prado which is personally my favorite restaurant..

Well, I hear where you are coming from.....and My Stepdaughter had a beach wedding in Oxnard. It costs to rent the beach for the afternoon, and put up the pillars and add decorations, then the chairs etc. I think she paid somewhere around $600.00 to the County to do that. It was beautiful, and on a nice warm sunny day in the summer. To avoid that cost, I would check with State Beaches along the coast to see what different charges would be. Since you seem to not be limited to a particular area. She rented a beach house for 2 weeks, part honeymoon, wedding prep, out of town guests etc using the House. I think the house ran an easy $2,000.00 for the 2 weeks time. With many do's and don'ts. I think a State Beach might be feasible. Congratulations to the both of you.

Check out this site:

http://www.eventective.com/USA/California/San+Diego/Wedding-Receptions.html

You just need to enter in your city/state and you can view all of the event venues in that locations. You will see descriptions and photos of the sites and can contact the venues via this site.

Good Luck
