I am over 25 but this was something I am just looking to understand.

Car rental companies seem to not want to rent to people under 25. They charge them a surcharge if they are under 25. Also, its nearly impossible for them to rent to someone under 21 unless they are under government orders.

I'd like to know what these government order look like. Does the rental agency know what they look like? Do they photocopy them or just look at them? Can you tell them not to photocopy them due to security issues? Could someone make these types of documents, if under 21, and get a rental car? Will a car rental company rent to a military member under 18?

I just want to know how this who thing goes about. A friend of mine and I were toying with the idea that an 18 y/o could walk into a rental agency with a fake DL that has all their info correct except for their bday, saying they are 25, with fake military orders, and get away with it. I say its possible. Right?

Basically here are the rules. Car insurance drops the rates when you turn 25. The percentage of accidents decreases dramatically after you have turned 25. Thats why they don't rent to those under 25.

Now as far as under 21--its the same rule as it is for under 25. If you work for the government the division you work for gives you a card. I work for Northrop Grumman as a military contractor. My husband and a new engineer were both hired straight out of college at 23/24. When they need to rent a car, they show them the Northrop Grumman card, your CAC card (military access card), and it is rented under a corportate credit card. They do not photocopy anything and there is no actual "orders". It means if you are traveling under government orders. So no you can't make these documents yourself as all the cards are very specific. Additionally the only documents protected by security reasons are classified.

It would definitely be impossible to falsify a driver's license, registration, proof of insurance, a military card and a corporate credit card. One of those would definitely look false.

Military really has nothing to do with renting a car. You have to be on government orders which doesn't include renting a car. You'd have military transportation. Government orders is more like working for the CIA or NSA.

As to if a car rental company would rent to someone under 18--I doubt the situation has ever occured where government agencies hired someone under 21. As to under 18, that would not be legal for they can't sign the legal documents/contracts required to work for such. You'd need parental permission, which violates government security clearance regulations. As to between 18 and 21, it might have possible under government orders to rent a car--but not possible to falsify government orders.

If the city you would be traveling to has an E-Z lease-A-motor vehicle, then attempt that. In Texas, they lease to all of us above 18, as long as you have a substantial credit card. this is greater costly because of the fact they fee a on an frequently happening basis fee, despite the fact that this is an option.
