First off, this isn't illegal immigrant bashing. It's just an honest observation.

The word 'immigrant' conjures up images of someone who comes to this country with the intention of living the 'American dream', assimilating to a reasonable degree, and who wants to be a loyal part of this nation.

The majority of illegal 'immigrants' have no love, loyalty, or desire to become 'part of' America. They're just desperate for work that pays better than in Mexico, and want to send money back home. Many of them flat out despise our country, and aren't shy about expressing it. They have no intention of assimilation. Many even refer to 'reconquista'.

To me, the term 'immigrant' is completely inappropriate to these persons. The term 'migrant' refers to someone who temporarily goes somewhere, with no intention of setting down roots, assimilating, or becomming a part of the community.

Shouldn't we start calling them 'Illegal Migrants'??

Great point! My dad's dad and his parents were true Immigrants. They came over from Ireland legally. Grand dad fought for America... As for the illegal "migrants". I call em just what they are, Illegal Criminals.

'Migrants' come and go. There are many legal and illegal migrants as well as immigrants crossing the border each year. But they don't stick around, so thier numbers don't grow steadily the way illegal immigrants' do.

But, you're right, if 'immigrant' conjures up visions of the American Dream, many illegals aren't really immigrants. 'Colonist' or 'invader' would be more accurate.

Well, I still believe that illegal aliens is an apt description. I also believe that they hate us and have no desire to assimilate and their stupid ideas of reconquista are just the same as a fairy tale. Immigrant is not what they are at all. I'd have to say that I agree with your assessment of the situation completely. It's not a racist view at all as this is a legal issue.
